Ok, my car has been repossesed for the 3rd time.

Why can’t I get my life together??!! I have a decent job, make enough money to pay my bills but I just don’t pay them!! It’s like i’m trying to sabotage myself. And it isn’t as though i’m buying clothes or trips or even cd’s with the money…i’m just living..you know buying gas and groceries and cat food. I have absolutely nothing to show for having lived these 39 years!! I have no savings, don’t own a house and now I have no car. Can someone please help me? Clearly the simple solution is to just pay my bills but why do I seem to have so much trouble doing that?? Please help…..

It depends why you don’t pay the bill. Do you forget? Keep putting it off?
Can you have the money automatically paid? That way you wouldn’t have to worry about it.

I think your life sounds pretty together. Not everyone desires to do other things,
(like own a house or keep savings), though considering your age and lack-of, what appears to be, future plans, I’d recommend you start saving for your retirement so your can still live comfortably when you become elderly.

Does any of the money go to gambling, drugs or alcohol? Have you sat down and made a list of your obligations and compared that to your income?

an easy way to pay your bills is to set up a monthly payment system through your checking account. I pay my cable, electric, gas,car insurance and credit cards all through my checking account. I have it set to pay the bills the same time once a month. I never have to worry about forgetting to pay, just making sure the funds are there and since you make enough money this shouldn’t be a problem. you should get it a try. and if you can’t do it through your checking most companies will let you setup automatic payments through their website.

You need to set up a budget plan.
Everyone’s right, auto payment is great, if you also can curb your spending so that you don’t over draft.

Savings—well I had a coworker tell me once, you can’t pay all your bills if you don’t pay yourself for the future. He was talking about setting some money asside for a ‘rainy day’. Now we have automatic transfers from checkings to savings.

Man Oh, Man, I thought I wrote that!! My car was reposessed once about 3 or 4 years ago and now it’s on the verge of repo again. Why? Because I’m an idiot. I am just like you. No savings, no house. The car is worth far less than the balance of my loan. I’m getting sick of this. I’ve done the credit counceling thing. Fabulous idea. I blew it. twice. I’ve done the “auto payments” from my checking account. paid thousands in bounced/return fees and lost rights to my debit card AND my ATM card for a year!!! Auto payments are very tricky and if you don’t watch it, you will get into worse debt.

My niece gave me a pretty nifty budget program that she made on Microsoft excel. I can change the numbers around. This has helped me a great deal. If you want me to share it with you, let me know. I like it. It helps me keep better track. The biggest problem as you stated though, is that I just don’t pay the darn bills when they are due. I forget or I want the $450 dog at the pet store instead! I’m pathetic (but the dog is adorable).

So the budget works, but then we still won’t pay the bills when they are due will we? So how about we try to be an accountability partner for each other? Cuz bottom line, we need someone who’s not emotionally attached who can just say it like it is. “PAY THE BILL–NOW!”.

haha—merse you’re right. It’s a question of will power.

Or someone to follow you around and say, oh that’s nice but is it $450 nice?!?! Make you shop and compromise, you can have ONE $20 thing, or TWO $10 things, but NOT two $15 things.

Do auto-pay on things, hide the debit card and make cash withdrawals at the beginning of a week for the money you’ll need (all week.)

I’m 34 and have just had my car repo’d for the 1st time TODAY!! I am a reck over here, please people tell me there are worst things than getting your car repo’d.

Can you bounce back from a repo. At this point I don’t know what to do. Do I pay what i owe to the bank and will they give me my car back (Which I don’t have all the money right now)? OR should I go out and try to get another car. I need my car for work…

WHAT DO I DO.

well, if you were leasing the car, you won’t be able to lease again. but that’s no biggie. I had my car repoed once. All I had to do was pay what i owed and got it out of the lot. These companies really don’t want to reposess cars and it costs them money to store it in a lot. The fees for the lot are not that much so you won’t owe a fortune. Once you pay what you owe, you are back on your payments again.

I suggest you beg and borrow from anyone and everyone to get the money. Your nerves will be shot if this goes on. It more stressful on your ego than anything else. I was able to buy a car even after a repo but I did have to put quite a bit down on the car. and my interest rate is a crime. but I have a car.

You can also go to your car and get stuff out of it if you left something in it and you need it. Take out anything valuable (GPS, cell phone charger, CD’s).

Hope this helps

OMG, all the times i say to myself, “this doens’t happen to anyone else, why me?” i see that there are so many people going through the same things. My truck was repossesed for the second time about two weeks ago. Im debating on letting it go, or trying to get the money to get it back? what would you do. my boyfriend has a car that we are sharing, but sometimes that gets complicated….i don’t know how this happened again. i have a good job, my boyfriend has a good job, but we just can’t save money. instead of making the car payment, we want to go to fiesta texas…i mean come on, why are we idiots like this??? someone please help!
