I’m looking for some help, do any of you know how likely I would be to come across a class equivalent to a high school Algebra II class in college?

My major will be teaching (high school, English and possibly one foreign language, no math.)

Try looking at a close/nearby community college! There is one in my area and you can take classes there that you may have no of passed or done well enough in high school at. :o)

Well, I’m trying to find out if it is safe to assume that in my course, I won’t HAVE to take such a thing again.

I think some schools have on their websites the courses you need. Did you talk to your counselor? they should know.

Most colleges have some sort of math placement test since everyone comes from different backgrounds. Depending on your major, you might not have to take any math at all. A high school level algebra II course would most likely be considered remedial and be listed as a 0-level course (as opposed to a 100-level). Even if your concentration isn’t math, it’s likely that you’ll need to take some kind of math class. The standard math at my university is called Finite (which is basically just math that isn’t algebra) and literally almost everyone takes it or tests out of it.

My father went back to college within the past two years and took a single Algebra class, apparently equal to High school level Algebra I for his social work degree. Dunno, just tossing it out there. Thank you much, Intangible. Ironically enough, you’re probably all of half an hour from the college I’ll probably end up visiting. Cool.

Yeah. I only had to take remedial trig (027!) for my brief foray into a Russian language major. But now I think I have to take Stats. Ugh. :/ Which college are you looking at?

Ball State. . .I guess they have a good teaching program. I never really considered going there. Muncie isn’t very fun, but it’s better than Indiana State. Good luck. :D
