What birth control pills help both Acne and Migraines?

I am 22 and I was on Ortho-Cyclen (was on generic: Sprintec) for two years originally for bad cramps and acne. It did help my acne, but not completely. I just recently noticed the connection between my migraines my the BC though. So my DR switched me to Alesse (I’m on generic: Aviane) but I forgot to tell her about my original acne problem.

I’ve only been on the generic of Alesse for two weeks and I know you need to be on any BC to know what its like for three months or more. But I’m getting horrible acne again. Really bad. But I haven’t had a migraine since I switched…

I also know that switching BC at all can make you break out. I guess I’m wondering if any one else has the same problem that has been on the Alesse for longer than a few months? Or if theres another kind of BC that helps both acne and migraines?

Its all so frustrating! Thanks in advance for the advice. :)

Birth control has always made my migraines worse so I really don’t know.

Dianette works for acne quite well, as does Celeste (though not quite as well I found). Both however make my migraines worse. I just try and convince myself a baby would give me a much bigger headache!

I recommend speaking to a gp or family planning nurse to get more information.

Check out your diet! If I start breaking out a lot I add more acidic fruits to my diet and drink more water and tea and avoid sugary stuff.

I haven’t taken bc in a long time. I have had a copper IUD for about two years now. I had put on excess weight when I took hormonal bc stuff and so I got off of it.

Also something else that works to cleanse the body inside and out is body brushing or sea salt bath scrubs. The later being my fav.

If you make your own at home be sure you get good quality stuff.

You’ll need:

-fine sea salts (pref un-processed and sort of grey in color) Too big and coarse and it will cut your skin.

-light oil like almond or grape seed

-And for acne try essential oils with astringent properties and citruses (i.e. Rosemary, tea tree, pink grapefruit, lemon) Also, to help heal skin (recovering pimples/ wounds/surgeries)try using dabs of rose oil and lavender oil. A caution with citrus oils: They can cause photo sensitivity to the sun so watch out!

-For stress or colds try things like: Eucalyptus, peppermint, and lavender, cypress. Caution: mints and eucalyptus are mucus membrane irritants - avoid privates, nose, mouth and eyes.

Mix the salt in a wide mouth air tight re-sealable container/jar and add oil until it is almost a dry paste. Not too gooey and not too dry and crumbly. Add 1-3 drops of up to 3 different essential oils.

Use it while standing in the tub before a shower OR I like to dampen my skin and then use it and rinse off. No need for soap as this stuff does the scrubbing!

I also like to use ****. Ive’s apricot scrubs and Sea breeze facial astringent.

Careful not to over cleanse your skin or it will dry out and the body will try to correct that by overproducing oils and thus giving you a look of that “combination” skin.

This is why light moisturizers are so important.
