Dealing with out-of-state tickets.
So, my Fiance went to California to take care of a 10 year old ticket/fine for littering. He hasn’t lived in California for years and now the fact that he didn’t deal with the ticket has bleed over into our lives together.
Being from Maryland I can’t understand how you can’t just call the Court Clerk and deal with fines or tickets. Here if you get a ticket, you pay the fine, you get a receipt, you go to the DMV and get your license reinstated. There, it’s like you get a ticket you pay the fines and 2 weeks later you can go to the DMV and get your license back…
A littering ticket has associated community service. Only 8 hours, but in NC ($400 in fees to be put on a waiting list to do litter detail) and MD (put on a list and never called back) neither state has been helpful or even giving any assistance to paying off this small debt to society.
Right, so he’s in California, and the transit system sucks, found out that Tuesday is a holiday…and from what he says there was no way to plan this before he went out there. It’s just maddening now he’s basically totally hindered from a ‘normal lifestyle’.
