Comma question

Here’s the sentence:

These chemicals, namely* carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide, are the most harmful.

Should there be a comma where the star is, or not? For some reason I don’t remember learning this in school, and I can’t find anything on Google about it.

This would be better:

“These chemicals – namely, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide – are the most harmful.”

Or, drop “namely” altogether!
