I just finished building my first computer and i am having toubles starting it up.

I have a Antec 900 case, Intel Quad Processor, XFX 680iGT-LT motherbord, XFX 8600 GT Graphics Card, 160GB Harddrive, 1 dvd drive, 2-1Gb Crossair memory sticks a 750W power supply.
When i connect all of the power cords to my motherbord a light shines at the uper-right corner telling me power is present. I turn on my computer and it goes in to the BIOS then a few seconds later it shuts off. I have already replaced the power supply once and i have taken all of the cords out and replaced them twice. Im starting to think it is my mothebord but I just want to know what other things i can try to get the **** thing to work.

if you are atleast seeing the bios or boot screen…it isn’t the motherboard , more likely a hardware issue. Check that your memory is in the right slots(assuming its compatible).

Check if the processor cooling fan is running properly. If it ain’t coolin’ that thing ain’t gonna stay on long.

Sorry, this is the extent of my knowledge (learned only from personal experience). The other computer dudes can help you out if my suggestion is stupid.

:D

When I build a PC I put all of the parts together out of the case on a nonmetallic surface. If your board runs out of the case, you will need to find out what is grounding the board inside the case. Some times its the face plate touching something or its a connector end touching the case. Try it and see if it will work outside the case. Hope this helps :-)

With that kind of processor, I’d ditch that crappy gfx card and get an 8800 GTX. Trust me, it’s worth it.

Dose the computer beep when you turn it on? Did you use a good heat transfer paste when you mounted the CPU heat sink? Dose it stay up long enough to identify your hard disk? Dose it boot up using your operating system CD? Can you save the bios before it crashes?
