Whatever you’re formatting with should have a partition type of linux swap and make it for twice your ram size.

Redhat has an auto format feature when setting up once it makes the partitons it will ask you if you want to proceed. At that point you can edit the partiton size if you want. It only creates the partitions it hasnt formated yet. Click proceed and it will setup like you specified. Hope this helps :-)

A swap file is a hard disk partition that is set aside to store temporary data. (Most people in the IT world call this virtual memory). Linux uses this area to read and write session data (data from one

Setting Up A Linux Swap File
First, you need to create a separate partition for the swap file. You should have been prompted to do this upon installation. If you somehow missed this step then you will have to use a partitioning tool to create the swap partition. Once you have created the partition then follow the advice of Michael Liebman’s earlier post:

partition type of linux swap and make it for twice your ram size

The other option is to rerun the install and see whether you can add a partition in unpartitioned space - otherwise you will have to reinstall Linux.
