How do you thaw a steak?

I’m making my boyfriend steak for our late Valentine’s dinner. (We live in different cities right now, so we couldn’t celebrate together today.) I’ve been a vegetarian for most of my life and, as a result, I have no idea how to cook a steak. He’s gonna be around to help me for the actual cooking, but I will need to thaw the steak before he gets here and I don’t even know where to start. :/

Thanks guys! :D

Put the package in really warm water…keep it wrapped, though. Also, you can thaw it in the microwave…most microwaves have a defrost setting. :) Good luck!!!

You can also run it under the hot water, then set it out to thaw for the day, I usually put it in the sink (left in the package)…but a lot of people recommend putting meat in the refrigerator to thaw.

Probably no help for this meal as it is pretty late… The best way to thaw a steak (or any meat) is to put it in the fridge the day before. It will never get warm enough this way for bacteria to start becoming active. They are already in the meat. You want them dormant until cooking. Thats the healthiest way. The worst way is the microwave. If you are needing it thawed quickly, then put it in warm water. Warm means 145 Fahrenheit. As soon as it is thawed, cook it or refrigerate it. Never re-freeze meat! It will sour much quicker if you do.

I love to cook so, any more questions? Feel free!

If it has to go quickly, put it in the microwave on defrost…:)

You can either leave it at room temperature on the day it will be cooked or put it in refrigerator day before, I wouldn’t chance anything else for fear of food poisoning, lol, guessing u already had the steak though, so assume you managed…..xxx

Warm water works, as well as leaving it out at room temperature. But nothing beats the age old tongs and lighter technique. Every time I prepare for a delicious steak dinner I carefully heat the ice glazed surface of the meat on all sides. You want to do this until no more ice is visible. Pay close attention and make sure has been well touched by the fire of God. The open flame helps spread the fat within the meat ensuring a million dollar flavor all the way around.
