Again, in my pessimistic view: because it makes the governments money.

*lol* I have no faith in government. I dunno, is my view pessimistic or realistic? Maybe its human nature to settle things with violence?

The government isn’t the issue, it’s the people that are in government with agendas to gain power or money.

We have an overpopulation issue looming also. The big guys know this, and killing tons of people frequently is useful with that.

as I said in a previous post http://help.com/post/134913-why-does-…

it all comes down to fear. We fear what we don’t know, and we don’;t take the time to empathize with other people. So we fear them, and we freak out. We get people who rally us to fight the enemy and our primal instincts for battle rise up and we go and kill people.

There aren’t enough people with the courage to stand up and rally people to communicate and empathize.

Oh and the language barrier is a big influence as well.

What I don’t understand is when I see footage of soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan that talk about fighting for the rights and freedoms of THEIR country (America). I have the utmost respect for soldiers because they have a difficult job that I would NEVER want to do. But it seems strange to me that they talk about protecting their country’s rights and freedoms, but I don’t remember Iraq nor Afghanistan ever threatening the security of America….?? I think thats when I get frustrated because THAT is government rhetoric coming through. I don’t feel that most governments are concerned with the rights and freedoms of anyone other than themselves (or else the world would be turning their eyes to the crisis in Darfur…Rowanda all over again) And what about protecting the rights of the innocent people of Iraq and Afghanistan that only want what everyone else on Earth wants: peace, safety, to live without fear of dying in their beds or on the streets. “Where you live should not decide whether you live or whether you die” to quote from my favourite freedom fighter :)
Wow, went off on a tangent there…

In America, we’re responsible for our government, and our military. If we sit back and let them do what they want, then we’re going to regret the stupid and hurtful things they do.

We have the responsibility to keep knowledgeable about current events (not Brittney spears or Michael Jackson), and to make our voices heard when stuff happens we disagree with. We have the responsibility to petition congress or the house of representatives to meet our needs and desires. Hell, we even have the responsibility to impeach our governmental representatives that we feel are not representing us appropriately.

And if the whole thing gets out of hand, we even have the responsibility to secede.

Not enough education. That’s the problem right there.

Being from Canada, I find it hard to talk politics with people from the States without them getting defensive. I have strong opinions about the Bush administration and what it has done….I agree with you whole-heartedly Night1029. Education is paramount. So what can be done about it?

Convincing people of the need for greater participation will probably have to be done with viral marketing techniques. Memes and such.

Its human nature, the one that carries the biggest stick usually gets their way. Also its easier to knock them in the head and make them do what you want than argue the point endlessly. Hope this helps :-)
