just show them, have them feel something in the room, and then feel a peice of cast iron… metal takes in heat and dispurses it through itself which is why it always feels colder it actually takes the heat from you… itll do the same with water, if you dont constantly adjust the temperature it’ll lose heat fast… in all honesty the only benefit that cast iron has over the acrylic tub is how much easier the instalation is

The argument is basically irrelevant because of the surface area of the water dissipating heat(unless you have it covered with some form of insulation). If you insulate either the cast iron or the acrylic that would take care of the sides and the bottom but you still have the surface area to contend with. Another possibility for arguing for acrylic is that acrylic doesn’t draw the heat out of the water like cast iron does(only from personal experience). Another argument for acrylic would be cost. A insulated lid such as you would find on a hot tub would keep the water hotter until use. Just rambling, hope it helped.

Cast iron is easier to install than acrylic?? I didn’t know that! I assumed because it was much heavier it would be harder to install..

Thanks guys…you both helped me understand more and made some good points to bring up!

Cast Iron vs Acrylic

Does anyone know if Cast Iron or Acrylic bathtubs retain heat better? Do you have any proof to show me? I’ve heard that Acrylic tubs have better heat retention because they insulate the water, as opposed to a cast iron tub, where the metal draws the heat out of the water and expels it through the sides. I need to prove to a client that the Acrylic is better, but I want to make sure my facts are straight and need proof from a reliable source… not just random websites.
