Chickens dont lay eggs, hens do. So therefore the egg came from the hen and thus came the chicken. It’s like in the beggining there was an Adam cockeral and an Eve hen. The Eve hen tempted the Adam cockeral with the forbidden corn. Of course the Adem cockeral fell for this old fashioned temptation. The Eve hen has been cursed to lay eggs for ever more. Of course the evil serpent is to blame for all of this, it’s name by the way is Hissing Sid.
