medical/ parenting question:

my baby’s got the flu. no fever, no diarrhea, but she can’t hold anything down. i nurse her to sleep so she’s not dehydrated and she’s sleeping away the discomfort but she wakes up vomitting. i figure if she’s going to throw up whether or not there’s anything in her stomach, let her have whatever she wants. her daddy disagrees. he said not to let her eat anything, but she’s so hungry i’m letting her eat noodle soup this very moment. what do you think? starve a fever, feed a cold? (neither of which apply)

again, no fever. i am seasoned enough to know this is not serious. it’s no emergency- just the flu. my other daughter had the same thing the other day (which is why the baby has it now) and had no appetite so i wasn’t sure whether to let the baby eat and throw it up or not eat and hope she didn’t throw up. personally i don’t have an appetite when i have the flu but she was hungry so i let her eat. of course, she threw up the noodles, but now she’s asleep. :)

thank you for your concern though.

Hows your baby doing today? Feeling any better? I know having a sick baby wheres you out. And when you have more than one child to take care of it is even harder. I hope she feels better. When my kids are sick like that I will let them eat if they are hungry. Stuff that is gentle on their stomachs like the soup. You know before they throw it up their bodies are getting some of the nutrients. And at least they will not dehydrated. Popsicles, jello, applesauce, and toast or crackers are out basics we eat when we have a flu.

aw thanks babacup! she’s not as sick as her sister was. i thought she was better today but she had one more episode. (didn’t stop her from jumping on the trampoline this afternoon though) she’s ok… popsicles and the like. i have the same philosophy- she’s absorbing something good before it comes back up :)
