Question about headaches.
At times I have really painful headaches that go on for hours at a time. My mother is worried that it could be something more serious that it really is.
Problem is I’ve been experiencing this since I was little and if it were really something as serious as she thinks it was than something would have happened already (I’ve experiencing this since I was 9, I’m 21 now.) I think these headaches are caused by stress and lack of rest, she thinks otherwise. I work about 23 hours (was 27), go to school full time (under as a computer science major no less) and do work study. I also spend a lot of time on the net so that might be a factor as well.
Given this info, what do you think the cause of my headaches might be?

The latest thing Doctors are saying is to drink plenty of water. And have you had your eyesight checked ?
Oh, The Mayo Clinic is suppose to be the best in this area. Check out their site.
There isn’t a Mayo Clinic in Philadelphia. >_> That map is wrong! My mom say to drink more water once, so I might do that. I got an eye exam last month, no problems.
I’m not sure, but maybe you just suffer with headaches/migranes. My mum works as an accountant (she uses computers every day), and gets 2 migranes at least a week, which can last for a couple of days. We think its to do with the computer…. the light etc “burns” her eyes after a while, so she squints alot… the tension in her face then triggers a headache (basically, she’s not relaxed).
If i were you, i would get it checked out by the doctor… i don’t know if your healthcare is free or not, but its better to pay a bit to find out whats going on. There may be medication out there that would prevent them from happening :)
One way to limit the (if caused by cimputer screen) is to lower the “brightness” level on your moniter to a lower level, the less bright is, the less it will cause headaches. Myself I like to have my brightness level relativity low because I am in front a computer screen alot.
another headaches, another heartbreaks..im so much older than i can take
All you have to do is put in the browser ‘Mayo Clinic’ or ‘headaches’ or whatever you want and hit search. Then browse around the web.I promise you will find something.
my sister got those growing up too they found out it was certain foods that caused it

have you tried just taking time off. i get headachs from stress and alot going on. It sounds like you have A LOT going on. Take a break
Could be just as simple as not enough rest as you say. Headaches are caused due to the dilation of the blood vessels on the outer part of your skull area, which in turn cause the muscles to ache in the head. The Brian itself is impervious to pain, meaning it can not feel pain directly. Best advice would be to get checked out for migraines. All of us most assuredly will experience at least one migraine in their lifetime.
I know a fair amount about headaches but you need to give me more info.
Is it on both sides of your head or just one, Is it localized in any particular spot.
Does it hurt to bend over or generally change “altitudes”
How long do they last
Does light make it worse?
How much caffeine do you consume? Whats your diet?
do you have pain in your neck?
Does it feel like you were punched in the eyeball?
Upset stomach?
When I do have this headaches it usually comes on rather sudden. Light doesn’t have much to with it however I find it does feel better when I find a dark area to sleep in. The last one I had was focus more so on the right side of my head but other than that my headaches span my entire forehead. I don’t drink I a lot of caffeine nor do I have any pain in my eyes, stomach or neck.
You said they usually span across your forehead? Is it more pressure than pain? I may have some info if it is.
Any social Anxiety? social anything?
They last up to 7 hours, a day without sleep. It’s more pain than pressure really. It is usually triggered by stress.
Yeah, stress .Do you use more brain power or physical power? Maybe make a point of balancing your energy. And I do mean ‘make it priority’.New studies on stress have revealed some very scary results, if you haven’t heard.
First: Go see your doctor, you always want to rule out tumors or what not. Don’t die because you think its the same headache and your too proud to see the doc. Help.com is not a substitute for a real diagnosis.
Most likely not a cluster or sinus headache. I would say its probably a tension head ache. Could be a migraine although you don’t have many of the symptoms I’m familiar with (and I suffer chronic migraines myself).
Remember that many college students develop horrible headaches in school that never come back when you graduate. You never relax, you are learning constantly (making those new neural connections is tough), and your diet is probably atrocious (pizza, pizza, and pizza right?).
Get sleep, Get a better diet, Get a girlfriend to give you a back rub. Talk to a Doc.
I honestly don’t think it’s a tumor, this has been going on since I was 9. They aren’t that frequent but I do have an episode every now and then. But, I will aleast try to see a doctor about this.
