What is the age range when someone usually rents vs owns ?

Is there a situation where you don’t have to ? (family, college, friends etc…)

I think it depends. I am 27 and I bought a townhouse about 3 yrs ago because I hated renting. I like working on the house, doing landscaping, etc. I have friends who are still renting and have no plans to buy in the near future. They like calling the landlord when something breaks and not having to worry about it. If you plan on moving alot, especially now that the housing market has slowed down, it would be wise to rent because you will lose money on the transaction costs without a constant runup in prices. Don’t know if that helps, but that is my experience.
