I know this sounds stupid but how DO you boil an egg?

I was told to boil the water first-turn the flame off- and then put the eggs in the pot and let them sit in the boiled water for fifteen minutes.
I tried that but the eggs weren’t cooked all the way. I tried putting them inside
the boiling water but then they get all cracked from being bounced around with the water boiling.
Any suggestions?

I put water in a pot, put the eggs in the water, put the pot on the stove, turn the heat on high until the water starts to boil, then turn the heat down so that it is just a slow boil and let it boil for 20 minutes.

Okay, I’ll try that. I didn’t turn down the flame when I put the eggs in. Thanks.

Sometimes when the heat is turned down the egg will crack a little, but not enough for the insides to leak out.

In the future you can place a few eggs in the water then put it on the stove to boil. Let it heat to a rolling boil and allow the eggs to boil like this for five minutes. Then turn off the heat and place a lid over the top and sit for 10-15 more minutes. This cooks the yolk to a yellow versus the weird green grey.

Thanks. Who would have thought boiling an egg would require technique. I honestly never knew.

Or you could just do it in the microwave:

if you put a splash of vinegar in the boiling water the shells don’t crack (smells funny but doesn’t affect the taste)
