I need help with itunes.

My fairly old powerbook 1400, from apple, made around 1996, works perfectly well. Because it is so old, the processor is only 117 mhz, and the monitor runs on thousands of colors max. but this shouldn’t be a problem for itunes. I have mac os 9.1 installed and should work with the earliest versions of itunes but does not. Here is the situation. I open up itunes, and the window comes up. I am able to put music in the library and make playlists and all that stuff, but whenever I double click on a song to play it, an error message pops up and says i need to restart my computer. It says it is an error 2 or -10 or something with the nature of the bus or something. Also, it wont let me open up appleworks. Not even clarisworks, and it says it is because of the same problem. Does anyone know how to fix this? (and do not tell me that mac sucks and to get a pc. windows stinks!)

I agree that windows stinks and that macs are awesome, but my advice is to get a new mac. the 1400 is ancint. You might need a new sound card. what does it do when you try to play a video in iTunes?

I havent tried it yet. but i am assuming that it will not play video since video does not play in quicktime.

The video or music videos from iTunes music store should play in iTunes.

I think it may be because the processor is so slow. The powerbook is so old I can’t even get the internet to work on it, therefore I am on my emac writing this now.

I’m not going to tell you that Mac sucks, as it would be an affront to my beloved G5, but I am going to suggest that it might be time for a MacBook. Now I know that new lappys are expensive, but seriously brother, your PowerBook is 12 years old. In computer years, that’s old enough to be wearing a powdered wig babbling about marauding redcoats. My guess is that your processor simply doesn’t meet the minimum system requirements, which likely bottom out at a G3. Moreover, you’re still running 9.1, which isn’t even supported by Apple anymore. All of this makes it a bit difficult to give reliable technical support.

One thing you didn’t mention, however - which version of iTunes are you running? That might make a difference.

you are right about getting new MacBook, and I am currently saving up for one, but for now, I am stuck with this powerbook. And as an answer to the version of itunes, I am pretty positive that it is version 2. I know, it’s a bit old, but it’s the only good music application I can find for an older operating system.

That’s fair enough. Version 2 is more appropriate because older versions will likely have less demanding processor constraints. I still have no idea what’s causing your error, however. Unfortunately with something that old, it could be a host of issues. Good luck on the new lappy!
