Help!

my dog, about 12 years old now, keeps making the most obnoxious puking sound. we took him to the vet and the vet said he looks fine but his muscles in his throat may be a little loose due to old age, so he might be trying to “puke” as a reaction, feeling like there’s something in his throat. Its just so loud and annoying, and once he starts doing it he gets into a fit and won’t stop. it wakes me up out of my sleep and makes me angry. should we put him to sleep because i’ve just about had it.

Seriously, yes, put it to sleep. It doesn’t sound like a happy animal. 12 years is 84 in dog years, right? It’s okay. Life and death, doesn’t matter.

he’s a chocolate lab. he was inbred so he’s got quite a lot of genetic issues, i’m sure this is one of them.

that reminds me of my sickly large cat.
It also coughs up hairballs ugh. annoying.
well you could consider closing your door when you sleep to block out the sound.
and if that doesn’t work, comfy ear plugs work!!!
so audrey hepburn in breakfast at tiffany’s!!!
of course she was also wearing a cute blue satin eye cover with fun fake eye lashes.
but back to the point. Obviously the dog is pain.
Because if you have ever thrown up you know it isnt fun.
So if your dog is really suffering, I would say put it down.
Because the dog is not in condition and shouldn’t have to suffer in it’s last years.

Labs are so cute, probably not so cute at 3am though huh. Do you feel the poor thing still has a good quality of life?

its hard to say.. i mean he already has to take pills daily for his painful arthritis, and he’s got tons of fatty tumors all over his body (not cancerous, but the overheat him and make it even harder for him to walk). and now he’s got this hacking thing going on..
