I am currently seeing a counselor for depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

I have been in counseling on and off for most of my life and I have seen more than my fair share of psychologists, social workers, counselors, and the like and all treatment ends up being terminated or transferred due to transference. The counselor I am currently seeing I have been seeing for 2-3 years now and she has helped me through so much and she is really good at what she does but I seem to have developed a crush on her. The thing is it doesn’t feel like regular tranference. But it must be, right? Well, anyway my question is…if it is transference what would be the best way for me to deal with this issue so I can continue getting help through her?

I’m sure she has had to deal with this before. Can’t you just tell her how you feel and tell her that you know that it is transference so how can you both get past it so they counseling can continue, because she has helped you greatly and you don’t want to lose her as your counselor.

Yea, I suppose I could but it seems awfully risky.

What would happen if you told her? I would think that she would handle it in a professional manner. At least I would hope so.
Do you automatically lose her as a counselor if there is evidence of transference?

Well I know she would handle it professionally. Yet I have a strong suspicion that once transference is evident they have to help you find someone else to reach your treatment goals for they think that it might get in the way.
