What is the best way to transfer data from your old pc when you buy

I just bought a new Dell XPS 400 and I have to get all my data off of my old Dell so I can focus on using the new machine. My old dell has a lot of junk on it, so I am wondering what the best way to get my old data off without getting the spyware and other crap that may have infected my machine. Help!

well if you plug the old hard drive in and boot using the windowsxp that is on your new xps drive ,then hopefully it wont infect your new pc ,just as long as you dont start any spyware apps off the old drive .then it isjust a case of draging and droping.

I’ve had good luck with one of these IDE -> USB adapters: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product…

The pros in using this is that you don’t have to open your case and physically install the old drive, and when you’re done you can stow it away and use it for another drive. I’ve seen really expensive ones out there ( $50+) but the $15 one I got did the job.
