Have you ever seen the film “Heat”, by Michael Mann?
It’s pretty long. That puts some people off, but not me because I’m a nerd, haha. It’s one of those movies that sucks you in so you don’t notice that it goes for ages though. It’s really rewarding!
It’s basically a cop drama/thriller movie, but the reason it’s so long is because it goes into the characters’ personal lives and stuff, so instead of it just being “cops chasing bad guys”, you actually care about the characters and want to see what happens. It’s REALLY well-acted and REALLY exciting, but it also kind of makes you think about crime, and why people do it, and why other people don’t do it, etc. The storyline is easy to follow, without being so straighforward that it’s insulting, if you get me.
It’s got a great cast, Al Pacino, Bobby Deniro, Val Kilmer, Ashley Judd, Natalie Portman, etc
And another great thing going for it is that it LOOKS really nice. LA is shot with all these big groovy sweeping wide shots of cityscapes and stuff.
Go for it!

i am legend is a good movie
Go with the Cohen brothers:
Fargo, Miller’s Crossing, Barton Fink, No Country For Old Men, Raising Arizona, The Big Lewbowski, Blood Simple…
I like Michael Mann too. Check out ManHunter, the first incarnation of Hannibal Lecter on screen. Boy does he love the colour blue!
If you like quality stuff then check these out (I like movies that stay with me long after I watch them):
The cook, the thief, his wife and her lover. Dir: Peter Greenaway
All or nothing. Dir: Mike Leigh
Magnolia. Dir: Paul Thomas Anderson
Dogville. Dir: Lars Von Trier
Happiness. Dir: Todd Solondz
Hiroshima, mon amour. Dir: Alain Resnais
Zorba the Greek. Dir: Mihalis Kakogiannis
Come and see. Dir: Elim Klimov (hope I spelled that right…)
Amelie. Dir: Jean Pierre Jeunet
The unbelievable truth. Dir: Hal Hartley
— this is all I have time for now…back to work!

**Cohen, sorry.

Not I. My favorite film is one of the longest films ever made; Seven Samurai (dir. Akira Kurosawa, 1954) clocks in at about 3 hrs, 40 min!

I have been wanting to see that movie. Hard to find time to watch movies that the kids can’t watch.

Has anyone here saw the movie Simon Birch?
It is based on the book A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving. The book is my favorite one of my favorites. My son is named Owen after the character in the book. The movie is good just not as good as the book.
Lord of the Rings
Kingdom of Heaven
Pirates of the Carribean
