Year help: i’m about to be evicted. - Help.com

i’m about to be evicted.

I’ve been applying for jobs non-stop since the new year and I cannot find one. my problem is that my entire career has been in the music industry. over the past 8 years the industry has literally been cut in half and, while I try to make the case that my marketing skills apply to any industry, it doesn’t seem that anyone wants to give me a chance. I can’t move down and be a marketing coordinator because 1. I couldn’t pay my bills with that salary, 2. they probably wouldn’t hire me because I’m over-qualified (ironic since they won’t hire me as a marketing manager) and 3. I’d be bored in the position and hate it. I am so screwed. Plus, I’m burried under a mountain of debt from trying to make it work for the past 2 years. It just hasn’t been working quite frankly and now I’m at the end of my rope. help!!!!

find a job at a store. a gas station. any job at all. re-examine your skills what can you do in another field - it is time to be very creative you can do this. if you only want to work in your field you may end up in a bigger mess. it is good to not put all your eggs in one basket and have something else to fall on… i am sure you have something outside of music where you worked…

Monster, Yahoo Hotjobs, Careerbuilder are some of the largest job boards, where you can apply for jobs and upload your resume. Since Craigslist, allows free job postings, many smaller companies post their vacancies on this online classifieds website. You can also search for jobs from multiple websites using aggregators like SimplyHired and Indeed. Referrals also are becoming a increasingly popular way to get hired. You can try your luck at online charities like Digital Charity, people may send donations if your story is convincing enough. More information at http://www.laodn.org/

if you think that you can take your skills to another industry, which i am sure is true, han you must proove yourself. In most industries, moving up the latter is relatively quick, so if you take a lower level job and proove yourself you can easily get promoted.
I would recommend staying away from any union shops though because then you have to make your way through the seniority issue.
Good luck

“It just hasn’t been working quite frankly and now I’m at the end of my rope.”

You might have to let go then. Logan is right you might need to take your skill set and apply it to another industry. The US is in the middle of a recession (I’ll guess you’re American) and so work in general has been hard to come by on the grand scale from high level paying jobs to minimum wage-**** jobs.

You might need to take that lower paying job, reassess your DTI (debt to income) and cut out any luxuries that aren’t completely necessary to your work. Sometimes in order to survive we have to take a step back and accept that the universe won’t bend to our whim.
