Take a lot of film classes in high school, perhaps be stage crew or apply to be a cohead of the show….Ie anything that gives you a manager position will look good for college…from there im not too sure, probably directing/production classes

Go to a film school for college. Theres a lot out there. Do a lot of home films, it will improve your abilities. Do classes in high school. Also, though not the most efficient, you can get into the industry in other ways. A lot of people want to become directors, but there is not nearly as big a field for other parts of film. By doing these parts, you will get into the industry and may find that you like that more. If your set on director, by getting into the field in other ways, you put your name out there and it is easier to direct later on. Becoming a director is a lot of work and there arent many out there so you will have to work really hard.

I would take a video camera and try directing your own home video
type of thing. Post it on U-tube.
Best to get a script from someone and then have some friends
do the acting and you film and direct the thing.
This will build low-cost experience. It is

What would you suggest if someone was unable to go to college?

Can a high school dropout become a director? What if she already had a few scripts, a digital camcorder, lighting equipment, multiple sets, and a lot of people willing to do what she needs for free. What if she’s already lined up an independent film, and a music video she’s in charge of. Granted, the band isn’t very well known, but I guess that’s going to change after the video hits youtube. Anyway, here’s the kicker. She’s 16, and this is all she knows. It’s her dream to do this. All she does is watch TV, and movies, and stay up all night writing because that’s “the only time the ideas really come to her” as she tells me. I just want to know if she can make it. Can she make it? Or is it too far out of her reach?

Hey guys! Its really inspiring hearing all these stories of how people want to become film directors! I want to become one too. Granted im only 15 but ive been on indie film sets. I would agree with what people have said above me to just make films and make films. NEVER stop making movies.Ever. You can check out some of my stuff at- http://www.youtube.com/user/futurefil…
Good Luck Everyone!
