I’m homesick, bored, and lacking motivation.

I think this time my homesickness is pretty serious, my heart physically hurts a little. I tried to get my mind of things, doesn’t work like always. I’ve been lacking motivation since a long time now, and boredom is something many people struggle with. Any suggestions to my current problems?

What are you homesick from? (obviously being away from home, but are you in college, a vacation ect)
I try not to let myself get bored, so I read a lot. Do you like reading? Or drawing comics or something to keep you busy when youre by yourself?
And what do you need motivation with? Work, school work, everyday things?

Well I’ve been homesick for 5 years, 2 months, and 26 days. I come from Germany and am living in the US, for more than 5 years. I think about my home everyday, but I am 17 haven’t graduated from high school nor do I hae my drivers license. In fact, i dropped out of school. Recently my body has been hurting everywhere, everyday something else or new, and yes my rheumatologist and so on know about this but they never do anything about it. Because there’s isn’t anything to do, Im not really good at anything. So I don’t have any hobbies, and there isn’t much to do around here. Especially together, I basically at the moment have nobody to have fun with. To answer your other question, no I don’t like reading neither drawing comics. I don’t know honestly what I do to keep myself busy, nothing really I guess mostly Im bored. I suppose I need motivation to live, there’s nothing really that wants me to keep on going.

I can actually relate to your situation, because when I was 10 I moved from the USA to Saudi Arabia and lived there for 8 yrs. I was kinda home sick now and then and loved coming back to visit. But I also adapted to living there and now, consider that more of my home than here, since I spent all of my teen years there. Do you visit Germany? Going back once in awhile helps with the homesickness. And are you here by yourself or with family?
Why did you drop out of school?
Ok, so you dont like reading or drawing, but have you ever wanted to learn to do something? Like play an instrument and be in a band or something? Any interest at all… you should pick up something to put yourself into and through that youll meet people to have a great time with.

@ kemmy: Yes I’ve been to Germany numerous times, but after the vacation it hits me right back. Im here with my family, but I hardly have any contact with them (and yes I live with them). I dropped out of school, because I got assaulted, I didn’t like the teachers, or the school itself, etc. Im not so interested in many things, im not talented in sports or music. Not so much of an artists, and it gets boring and repetitive pretty quick in my opinion. I like video games, but they get lame fast.

good to know that you like video games. “Not much of an artist” does this mean you draw a bit. You are not talented in music or sports but would you like to be talented?
If not in these it may be something else.
Will you go back to Germany for the next vacation? See if you can get friendly with anyone their. Keep in touch with them and build up a healthy give and take relationship with them. This will help you to be in touch with your country while you are in US. That is how we all ex pats do here.

No, im not really interested in trying to be good in music and I rarely draw. Last time I drew something was probably a year ago, I will be going to Germany for 9 weeks. However talking to my friends over the telephone/internet isn’t enough for me, so I think I’ll be leaving this country once I got a decent education.

I am really happy that you are planning for future. Be positive and stick to your plans. Please do not let your depressive thoughts dominate you. Drive them away as soon as they approach.
