Athiests dont believe any form of God exists.

Agnostics believe that all existence (like asking yourself, “what is the meaning of life) is unknowable by humans, and human knowledge is limited to experience.

Athiests believe that there is no God.

Agnostics do not believe nor disbelieve anything and do not seek any truth in religion; they will accept a religion as truth only if it is presented to them with irrefutable evidence that it is the one and only truth.

Nyx is correct… Including the proper wording on the first point, relative to Kemmy.

Thanks for your replies! I just like to have the correct term. Hmmmm. trying to see where I fit

I don’t believe in any god (athiest)

I do believe in spirits (which may or may not be “ghosts”) And, I believe I have “irrefutable evidence” of spirits weather anyone believes me or not. That’s not god, but definitely a something else (agnostic?)

You’re probably actually neither, and fall into some category of spiritualism.

You would fall under the “Agnostic theism” category: (also called religious agnosticism)—the view of those who do not claim to know existence of God or gods, but still believe in such an existence.

well, see, I don’t believe in god or gods at all. I do believe in spirits though, after some really scary stuff playing with an ouija board, say 15+ years ago.

There are several forms of each. Depending on how interested you are in the topic, I know quite a bit about both of these, as well as others. Just ask if you want to know more.

It’s a better description than reciting a novel every time the subject comes up. Trust me, I have one of those labels that no one understands and I nearly always have to explain whenever it comes up.

An atheist is someone who doesn’t believe in a god or gods. An agnostic is someone who believes the existence of a god or gods can not be known absolutely, nor disproved.

As for your scary experiences with the Ouija board, I don’t know how this will make your feel but your experience is probably not unique. Ouija boards are known to work by auto-suggestion. Here are some websites that include skeptical explanations of the workings of a ouija board:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ouija
http://www.skepdic.com/ouija.html
http://www.straightdope.com/mailbag/m…

If you want to test whether they are correct (though I can understand if you won’t go near one), try 2 things. One is try operating the board blindfolded, or blindfolded with the board oriented in a way you are unaware of, and have someone not participating observe and take notes. The other would be try asking the board something that you don’t know, but which can be easily verified (like the phone number of someone you know).

an atheist is someone who believes there is no god of any kind and will strongly argue this belief with anyone, where as an agnostic person says they dont know god but they accept the fact that other people believe in a god and they respect that belief they wont argue with anyone over the fact just simply not believe it in themselves!!!
my religion teacher taught me a way to remeber the difference an agNOstic doesnt kNOw god but an athEIst doesnt belIEve in god

Simply put, Atheists believe that there is no god, and are on one side of the fence. Religious people are on the other. Agnostics don’t care until someone proves that there’s a fence to argue over.

Really? Could you find out for me if they know of a radio show called 2Sense? I’ve heard the same thing on there, and nowhere else but my own head.

It wasn’t actually using the board when the scary things happened, and I realize many people unconciously “direct” the board. My scary things were a well planted, stable little 3 foot bookshelf tipping over in the middle of the night (with no plausable reason) or hearng someone stepping on paper walking around my bed (but nothing was on the floor but carpet. This happened AFTER we used the board, maybe days, maybe weeks, It was a long time ago. To this day I won’t say the spirits name. I worry that I may call him somehow just by doing that. Your verification methods are good, but I wouldn’t touch another ouija again.

Most agnostics are just looking for or waiting for proof. For many, there’s no belief of disbelief involved in any way.

Well, I don’t believe there in god but I am open to the possibility I could be wrong. :)

Then you’re an Atheist. As long as you can say, “I could be wrong”, you’re good. If you can’t say that, you have what is called a cult mentality, and should probably seek help.

If you walked into a room full of scientists and asked them is there such a thing
as God most of them would say no.
Then if you asked them is there such a thing as “nature” they would all look at you
as though you’re crazy.
Of course there’s nature.
If you then asked them “what is nature?” they would proceed to tell you
it is this great, invisible, all-powerful force, that controls all the
seen and unseen things in the universe.
Sounds like God doesn’t.
Nature and God are simply two names for the same thing.
Nature being the scientific name and God being the religious name.

Athiest : a person who believes that god doesn’t exist .

Agnostic : a person who has a doubt that god may exist or may not & looking for a proof to support either of his conclusion .

This is all I’ve seen you post on here, Spira. And I’ve shown all the flaws in it that keep it from working at least twice. At least TRY to come up with something new, that holds more water, k?
