Does anyone have experiance with Speech and Public Speaking?

Could somone give me some helpfull advice on speaking properly? I often mumble alot and people find it hard to hear me… I go to a lot of dances where music is played loud and no one can hear me when I talk. It getting very embarrising… How can I be more articulate in my speech? I’ve even video taped myself giving a speech and my voice sounds like it has a lisp or slurred. I know I can make it sound better because when I concentrate hard on talking to someone my voice sounds normal. Could someone give me some tips on breaking this habbit? My parents have suggested me taking speech lessons or something of the sort but I think I can grow out of this habbit someday by practicing.
thanx

Cicero, the famous Roman orator, practiced by talking to people with small rocks in his mouth. It forced him to enunciate very clearly, so that when he was speaking in the Roman senate people could hear and understand him well…

You might try that…just make sure that the objects you put in your mouth are clean! And, don’t swallow them…

Great minds think alike!

When was the last time that you went to the dentist? Is there anything physically wrong with your mouth?

You are probably way too old for this to be a concern, but I know that a short frenulum (the thing that attaches your tongue to the floor of your mouth) can cause speech impairments of varying degrees. They call it tongue tie, for obvious reasons. You might want to make sure that that’s not an issue…
