I have an interview this Friday and I’m a bit worried about what to do and say.
Its for a city position of public worker http://www.ci.cerritos.ca.us/citygov/...
I really want this job; pays way better then my old, its for one of my favorite city’s, and i get to be outside. I’ve only had one interview before and that was a long time ago for the sports store (which wasn’t even very professional) What I already know is:
-Dress Nice
-Eye contact
-Good Physical presence (sit up straight, etc)
What i need help on is, What kind of questions are they going to ask ? and how should I respond ? any tips and ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Where were you?
You can also watch events on Help.com as they happen
have your resume ready.
they’ll ask you about your previous jobs, education, and experience.
and why you want the job.
if you’re moving out of state, they want to know that you’re not just passing through. it takes a lot of time and money to find good employees.
oooh firm handshake aswell, always important, jus be urself and feel confident and keep fiddly fidgety nervous hands under the table. ul be fine.
Figure out how to answer questions about areas you may be insecure about, and practice the answers, remember to keep them short and sweet.
Try and ask some questions yourself. You’ll be avoiding the usual yes and no responses, and it makes you seem interested.
I got my resume (I have to add i’m bi-lingual)
Why I want the job ? whats a good answer with that ? “I am looking for a stable job where I can gain new experience, and learn new things” is that a suitable answer ?
I just don’t know what they want to hear, Thats was makes me nervous, bad response’s.
i used to be a hiring manager. what’s the field and maybe i can ask you some questions. that way you will at least have thought about the responses ahead of time. if you’d like.
That sounds like a great idea. The field is linked above in the post. http://www.ci.cerritos.ca.us/citygov/…
Let me take a shower and get some nice clothes on lol (seriously i do have to shower BRB)
okay, i’ll check out the post.
dan, the link said i didn’t have access to it. just ’splain it and we’ll do the fake interview when you get back.
No access ? thats odd. Ill copy and paste (shortened)

okay i’m here. gimme a sec.
okay, i meet you in the lobby. we shake hands, introduce ourselves, and say come on back. we go to my office? i pull your resume out of a stack of them..
mr. tl, i see you just drove in from [your city]. how was your drive, or flight?
you say it was good. you mention if you have been to the town before, how beautiful it is here, or that you were struck by how much it’s grown since you were here last, something like that. people like to know that you like their town.
you with me so far dan?
yup ( i like this )
good. now i can see your experience on your resume, but i have lots of applicants and first i want to know why you’re here, and how much time i should spend interviewing you.
what led you to apply for a position here with the city?
“well I’m regular in this city, go to school here, and thought, why not work for such a nice place, I think its time for me to gain new experience and learn new things by the way.”
( i already failed… see this is what I mean, I got so many thoughts I got no clue what to say first what priority comes first )
no you didn’t fail at all. it’s not a bad answer. if you want you can email me your resume, or we can do this in a shout trial. the point of this is to practice so you’ll be more confident in the interview. send it to sansceriphatlondondotcom. or we can just wing it here.
do you have a Yahoo. ID we could use that chat feature, and I have AIM ?
sorry i don’t im because of the firewall here. i’m told it opens my company up to spyware and viruses. let’s just go to the shout feature.
be yourself!!!!!
if you have a sense of humor, use that to your advantage. be some these people are going to want around. and most of all, be friendly, but not TOO friendly. if you’re meant to have this job, you will. no worries =)
dan if you have anymore interview questions or want to do some practice ones again, i should be back on tonight (thurs) at about 11pm eastern u.s. time. if i’m not on it means the help server is frozen up again.
good luck with the interview dude. oh, and don’t call the interviewer dude!
Ha Ha thank you sansceriph you been a big help.
