marriage help: I am in desparate need of help to pay bills, as our utilities are about to be cut off. - Help.com

I am in desparate need of help to pay bills, as our utilities are about to be cut off.

Some stuff has already been cut, but it was not something we couldn’t live without. I hate having to do this, but I feel I have no choice.
Firstly, I am not a lazy bum. I work hard at multiple jobs, but it still isn’t enough. Along with crazy utility bils, gas prices, etc., I also pay dearly for child support for child I am not allowed to see, talk to, or anything else.(long, screwy story) Since my child support went up by a factor of 5+, things have been going steadily downhill. Now we are approaching the botto of said hill, and there is a (figurative) concrete wall waiting. Looking now at losing heat, electricity, and more. Food? That would be nice, but special things are needed for wife due to medical reasons. I’m looking for more work, but I don’t know how much more I can do, as my physical condition/age (48) is painful. I don’t know how much more I can take….

Hello Generic,

Welcome to Help.com! Thank you for taking the time to share with us your situation. I have some information for you and if it doesn’t help, feel free to return and give it a go once again. (I have tons of resources)

First let’s address your utility concerns. I’m not sure what state you reside so the following information will be a try and error sort of thing.

Each State has agree to update their Social Services that included a three digit number people can call for information. If your State has activated this service you should be able to find aid to pay your utilities.

The number should be 211. Not 911 for emergencies. Just 211. If this number fails, I recommend calling United Way and make the same inquiry.

Here is United Way National Search Directory: http://national.unitedway.org/myuw/

Input your location and the local United Way should come up. Visit their website and write down the Office Phone Number and give them a call. (word to the wise - if they ask how did you hear about them - replying that you’ve found them on the internet is a BIG no-no.)

Now concerning your desire to bring in more income. I have a ton of links from customer service work from home to beginning your own business. If you interested in a gazillion links, let me know.

48? That was a while ago for me! L.O.L! You’re a youngster!

Well, first, I guess I should say that I’m in TN. Also, I seem to be in a bracket that is, well, hard to place. I make to much to fit the poverty bracket, but too little to pay all the bills. FWIW, I am in the 30-40 K bracket. That’s gross, of course, whereas net is another story. For instance, my last 2 paychecks netted less than 50% of the gross, yet my income level is based solely on gross for assistance purposes. Go figure, eh? I’ll check on the sources you mentioned, but to be honest, I really don’t think they will be any help due to the red tape mentioned above. Thanks, R
