Expectations.

When we are born people have so many expectations of us.
What we will become,
Who we will be,
How smart we may be,
And the list goes on and on.
As we get older we start to have expectations of our own, goals and dreams of what we will one day achive.
These expectations also incude what we get out of life, we expect life to just happen.
Do you ever expect more from what your life has given you?
And do you think that all that we wish and hope for just sets us up for a fall?
I mean why do we look around at all the things we could have, better things when we don’t or can’t accept what we already have?

Your view…?

because sometimes what we already have is nothing. May have been alot, but let it all go. Then have to srtrive to get something bk, ie. food, drink, warmth a home.
Even though all that means nothing without love. But what God requires, us to be wholey sacrificial only works in an idealistic world, put into practive and you become me, nothing, with noone, and no home.
If what you arlready have is acceptable, then I agree, we should accept it.

Erich Fromm ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erich_Fromm ) wrote a book called “To Have or To Be?” — the psychological difference between “being” and “having” is certainly interesting. I prefer to BE happy rather than to HAVE expectections….

i certainly did expect more than life has given me. at the very least i expected to be able to perform daily functions without severe pain and to be able to leave my house by myself at age 31.

and, while unrealistic, i also expected my dear dad, who was my rock, to live forever. i miss him every day.

I truly believe that we should strive for better but if we don’t get it you can always work with what you got. We are here for a reason. We may not all know what that is but don’t ever think there is no purpose for life.

This post made me think, so thank you for that. I think when I was young I expected a lot and I without a doubt expected a lot from other people, I’ve since grown out of that and expect more out of myself.

Life doesn’t always live up to our expectations, so we really do have to appreciate what we do have and I do that some, but I could do more of it. Thanks for the post, it’s a beautiful reminder.

“I mean why do we look around at all the things we could have, better things when we don’t or can’t accept what we already have?” I do think about that from time to time, usually when I want more, when I get whatever it is it never reaches up to my expectation. even when im aware of this i still want more!

It’s often been said that the first step to happiness is to first be happy with the good we do have. Anything beyond that is icing on the cake.

Expect nothing, but strive for something.

Having high expectations FOR YOURSELF is a blessing…a driving force to succeed, or grow and discover. CONVERSELY, Throw out everyone else’s desire’s, and expectations for you…because it is ultimately your life…they have their own. The root of the word though is EXPECT, and life is pretty good at never giving you that. In which case, strive toward doing what makes you happy…if you do that first everything else will come.
