life help: OK, so I am in high school and can go on one of two summer programs. - Help.com

OK, so I am in high school and can go on one of two summer programs.

The first is a service project in Mexico. I live with a host family and do work for the community for 6 weeks.

For the second, I got nominated to go to Sweden to attend an international Junior Business competition. It is being fully paid for by the place that nominated me. I have a 75% chance of getting in (four students were selected to apply, but only three will be going). Also, there is a possibility that I might be able to stay in Spain for a few weeks there, but there is only a vague possibility of that.

The second option is more prestigious than the first choice obviously, but it is only for three days (unless I end up living in Spain), while the other program is six weeks. I don’t know for sure if I’ll get into the first one. Also, I would be able to learn Spanish if I go to Mexico. I want to go to a good college and I don’t know which program would be though of as better. I also want to learn Spanish.

Which should I go on? I have to decide in the next couple of days.

Flip a coin, have your mind set that you will not change your mind no matter what the outcome, when the outcome is revealed if you are happy- go for it, if you are slightly disapointed then you will already know which one you really want.
your choices are half chance and so are everybody elses…

Are they at the same time? So you can’t do both?

Personally, I would go for the trip to Mexico. Living with a family will completely immerse you in the area and the culture, which is awesome. Being in a competition will probably be more like a school field trip to another city.

That’s just me, though.

I agree with Appassionata, I would choose Mexico. Which trip is better for your soul?

go to the one in Mexico. If you go to the one in sweden you’ll regret it later because Mexico can count as community service hours, which is a great plus (I graduated college with 12 college credits and over 1000 volunteer time.. my university LOVED that)

I guess its just that the Sweden thing is sort of once in a lifetime…more impressive and stuff.

community service in Mexico sounds pretty **** impressive to me

Of course, none of us know what we’re talking about, and you do, so of course you’re the only one who can make the call.

Just saying, though…
