life help: Okay, I have a problem. - Help.com

Okay, I have a problem.

I’m a middle class teenage girl, and my family isn’t that bad off (moneywise). I’m pretty smart, and go to a public school that isn’t that bad, but I’ve always tried to do the best I can. So my family and I were looking for private schools for me to attend for the rest of high school. We looked at Catholic schools mainly, but then I saw a prep school. And I was accepted! I won’t tell you what school it is, but I will say it is one of “Ten Schools” an orginization of college prep boarding schools. I was thrilled, but I have a problem. My family applied for Financial Aid, but the cost would still be around 24,000. I have about a month to convince my family that the school is worth it, and I need to find a way to lower the cost, whether it’s talking to the school or finding an outside source that gives scholarships. Because the way it’s looking now, I can afford to go but I won’t have and more money for college, and we’ll still have to pay a lot out of pocket. Please help, give pointers, ideas, or just support. Because I really want to go to this school, and don’t want something to be so close and then taken away. I’m going to fight for this, do all I can, and any kind of help is appreciated. thanks,

I would also take the time to look at the big picture. I’m not about to disparage all prep schools, but a lot of them are either set up for families with way more money than brains or families with lots of pride.

Where will going to this school get you that going to a public (or cheaper private) can not? And, are you willing to trade the prep school for college?
