computer help: 2 computers, 1st usb to cable modem internet sharing is enabled, 2nd (client) connected to 1st(host) via wireless cards (ad hoc). - Help.com

2 computers, 1st usb to cable modem internet sharing is enabled, 2nd (client) connected to 1st(host) via wireless cards (ad hoc).

File sharing works but 2nd does not connect to net. when both computers have same work group name internet doesn’t work. When host is set with different network SSID and LAN & Wireless are bridged then client connects to net but it does not last. Any help… I have tried setting default gateways in all possible combinations between the two computers. Host runs xp pro, client runs xp home.

first thing first………

File sharing works so the wireless cards are ok, drivers etc. sounds like you have got it working but how is the signal strenth.

Just an idea have you thought about getting an adsl wirless router or cable wireless router as it would be better doing it this way as wth adhoc you will always need both systems running.

But check signal with both systmes running on the net.
