Duplex printing problem with the wireless C7280: Windows Vista and XP, version 10 of Photosmart AIO driver software.
When I print and specify two-sided, I get a pop-up that says in affect “the duplexer module is not installed, and if I click print it will print one-sided”; however, if I click print it actually prints two-sided like I asked! It’s as though the driver thinks the duplexer is not there. This happens on a wireless network with two Vista machines and one XP machine. HP support has been no help at all! Any suggestions?

Maybe there is just a defect in the printer…call the phone number given to you on the module or find the website of your module type(hp, dell, etc.) then call the help hotline and usually they might be able to help you with your problem…
Has the printer been certified to work with Vista? Vista has had huge problems with incompatible drivers in the past. You might try checking for an updated printer driver on HP’s website, if you can’t find one it might be worthwhile to see if the company has plans to release one…
I am having the same problem in WinXP. Spent 1.5 hours with tech support yesterday, they are sending me a new duplexer for free (but I don’t think this will fix it).
Have you tried any other connectivity options (wired ethernet, USB)? I am running wireless as well right now. I didn’t have time to try other connectivity options yesterday, but will tonight.
I got the same problem. I found out that when I print on USB it has a function automatic duplex. But when I want to print wireless I can only choose the option ” duplex manualy”. I think it is a driver problem. Has anybody solved this problem ?
I found the solution on HP’s forums, and it works great.
Make sure you do this for the instance of the printer you’ve installed over USB. If you’ve already installed the printer over wi-fi, delete that printer from the printer control panel before you start this procedure.
1) Install the printer over USB
2) Print a page using automatic duplex
3) Disconnect the USB and make sure wireless is connected
4) Go into the printer properties (Control Panel -> Printers, right click on printer and select “Properties”, Click “Ports” tab, then check “TCP/IP”
I should add that you should do this for every computer that will be using the printer, if you don’t want the annoying popup for duplex. This could be a pain, but not so bad for small networks.
Just spent 2 hours patiently with HP tech. Same error using wireless with 2 computers. HP had me recheck all settings, uninstall, re-install, no help (I am no newbee) I asked if this was a common issue and was told noooo, your situation is rare. my 7280 will print duplex after I ignore the error message and select print. I will try the USB solution and report back asap. I also got this from another site just before I came here.
Simply connect my printer to my Win XP workstation via USB cable. Wait for the USB drivers to install automatically.
Change all of your HP C7280 printers already installed to USB Port as you described. Apply your settings for each printer. Print a test page for each printer and then change the port settings back to your original TCP/IP port.
Hey presto - no more STUPID popup messages about no duplexer being installed!
I am running Win 7 but I did the same thing in Vista and XP, go to Control Panel, select printer C700 series, Right Click Select PROPERTIES, device setting tab, got to installable options, select DUPPLEX UNIT “installed”, foto tray if you have it. click apply or OK. now go back to the printer double click on it select printer “PREFERECES” advance tab, document options, ADVANCE PRINTING “enabled”, got o short cut tab, select dupplex printing (left side), and then select print bothsides “AUTOMATIC” save this as any name you like and click ok or apply. that is it it works in USB direct, LPT1 TO USB and Wireless… Also Remote internet printingas well.let me know if it helps. and good luck
