Does anyone do Stunt kites?

I weigh 130 and I bought a 64″ x 32″ delta that might be too strong for me. Will this kite be dangerous for me in high winds? It says it’s min weight for a person is 110 so I’m probably on the bridge of the pull. Any suggestions of flying? Know of any websites that carry info on how to fly stunts? thanx

Ah, so it is just a normal stunt kite then? tbh all kites come with wind ranges specifications, as long as you start off with the lower wind end and work your way up you should be fine.

I am about 9stone and fly a 12 meter peter lynn phantom which i can hold down in winds up to 25mph, i don’t know honestly how that compares to a delta but i should think as long as you play it safe and work your way up through the wind speeds to one your comfortable with you’ll be fine.

Just dont overdo it :)

if your really worried I believe you can buy stakes that you drive in to the ground that connect to a safety harness. This would give you a little bit of air time but stop you at a certain height. Also I know that if you release 1 of the handles the whole kite should collapse. So if it does get dangerous let go - better than risking broken bones.

ok for the love of god DO NOT EVER do Tethered flights, it is highly dangerous and highly stupid!

as well as that you should not be even thinking about using a harness until you have at least flown for a bit.

hmpf didnt realize tethered flights were dangerous = sorry :S I never really did air-time = used to scare the living daylights outta me! I never took my 1m home made out in heavy/blowy weather = too scared. It certainly was fun in summer thou - with gentle breezes I could catch

Wow… Thats a big kite to start with. I have been flying them a few years. They are loads of fun. Start at the low wind ranges yes… In large gusts you can move the kite to the edge of the wind window. There is a tethered flight option you can do. It is not tethered to YOU. Both handles have a strong line going to a sand screw in the ground about 3 feet in front of you. One of the tether lines is longer then the other. If the kite is to strong you can let go of both handles and it will turn to the edge of the wind window and crash gently.

Did you order the kite online or buy it in a store?

I suggest getting a beginner… Ask shop keeper for a good starter kite. They are close to indestructible, cheap to fix, and a lot less expensive then your 64″. (You will break that kite. Does not matter how long you have flown.)

Cool… I recomend looking for a kite shop and getting to know a few people. They can tell you where a lot of events go on and “fly offs”. You can actually get some hands on one on one training with some really good fliers that way.
