Today, it was confirmed.
Matt is gone.
Matt Maupin was a student of mine when I lived in Ohio–such a good kid, so laid back, so nice. They identified his remains in Iraq today after a four year wait by his family and friends. What a loss. What a terrible, sad loss.

I just feel for his family. They have waited, hoping…
I know how you all must feel
he’s in a better place no doubt
I know he’ll be missed
don’t cry I think you should celebrate his life instead of grieving over it
but thats my only opinion I don’t know him
but thats the way I would want it.
Thank you….and at least his family finally knows for sure instead of always wondering.

wow 4 years..?
That is a long time to be waiting and not knowing, at least now they finaly have some closure to this although I don’t think it will make it any better to deal with.
So sad..
Sorry to hear about the loss. Now at least friends and his family know the real thing. May his soul rest in peace.
Thats awful hun.I’m so sorry for your loss.May God be with you and all who knew him.
another casualty of a war we werent sposed to be fighting in the first place, i dedicate this song to Matt, whoever you are, you believed in what you did or you wouldnt have been there but sometimes we shouldn’t believe what our rulers tell us

You certainly understand that feeling of waiting. I hope that you’ll soon have a happy ending!

Thank you everyone!
There is a video of his mom and dad on cnn.com: http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2…
They’ve aged a lot since I last saw them, understandably so.

thank you hun… but the knowledge of knowing that they are still alive keeps me going.. in which this case.. there was no knowledge.. so its a bit of a difference.

True.. it is different.
They were actually quite hopeful that he might be found alive, though, because several months after the initial video by his captors, when everyone was starting to whisper quietly to one another, “he’s probably dead”, his captors released a second video of him talking. I think that is what made them more hopeful despite the odds. When I visited their town 2 years ago, everyone was still wearing little photos of him with yellow ribbons. I think that’s why this is still somewhat of a shock to them.
Anyway, thanks for the reply!
Four years… I cannot imagine.
It still shocks me when I realize how long we have been there.
I start to wonder if all the death helps anything at all…
lives are supposed to make a difference, death should be so much more than that.
I am truly sorry to hear of the loss.
I am so sorry to hear Feng, and there is not a lot to say, except that I hope you will find comfort and peace with what has happened. Sometimes there are no explanations just events. However, the good news is that you can be there for his family and know that there is a lot of love in the world even when such terrible things happen.
such terrible things which wouldn’t happen if soldiers didn’t exist and we minded our own business except when OUR country was threatened
