work help: How do you resign from your job when you feel like you don’t belong there, but also have no idea what to do next? - Help.com

How do you resign from your job when you feel like you don’t belong there, but also have no idea what to do next?

I’m really feeling out of place where I work now. I’ve tried to figure out what I enjoy doing, but nothing seems to stick. I’m not in my thirties yet, but I still feel like time is slipping away…

Go back to college, I’ve just done it and it’s great, you get a new direction and an excuse to throw paper aeroplanes at your elders and betters.

Unfortunately, I did enroll in a degree program while I’m still working. But, I’ve found out that I don’t like it much either!

I’m 22, and my job is O.K. but its a meaningless full-time job, and its not where I want to be in life. I also hate the town I live in. What I’m gonna do is quit at my 1 year mark, and go travel the world freely for as long as I can afford it. Then, I’m gonna move somewhere else (another state, or country), and either get a new & better job, or go back to school, as Renzo said.

Fair enough, it might still be worth getting a prospectus from a collage/university. Even if you don’t see a course you want to do they can still give you ideas about what’s out there. Just remember you’ll never be out of a good reliale job… Burger King will be around forever ;-)

Or as a side thought if you want to travel look at TEFL courses.

You might try taking one of those Meyers-Briggs personality tests. They are often used to help people choose careers that fit their personality and interest best. I went to a consultant and did this formyself years ago. I was happy with the results. If you do a search with Google you might even find a free test online that suggests career options.

Dear Dotspot,

I have the same problem as yours. Just quick question, have you done what you told us? Thanks
