No don’t give it oats or endurance mix. you need to feed it something which will metabolise more slowly. I don’t know what you should feed it but definately don’t give it oats yet unless you want it to be mental.

it depends what work you are trying to give them .firstly i had race horses ,say i started working a race horse to day .I be working at a slow jog for about 10 minutes .the horse after agistment is nice and fat ,so i don’t give them nothing special.Still i be inclined not to give the horse oats ,maybe a handful but feed the horse twice a day after a week you can see if the horse sweats a lot give it two handful of oats and lucerne shaft and rise the workload up to fifteen minutes. After that depends on the horse give it extra feed maybe a nice mix with molasses oats minerals ,like a hamburger with the lot by the time you have it working for about halve an hour depends if the horse is losing to much weight give it more food .depends what you asking of the horse ,to win the Kentucky derby or just plotting along in the paddock….

just hay. Otherwise, if it doesn’t work that much, its going to get overweight. Work with it slowly, dont expect anytthing big. Half an hour rides to start (going slow), and build on from that, if you rush into it, going two hours at fast paces, the horse could risk pulling a muscle, or hating being ridden. Good luck!! and remember, have fun with this!!
