Say I were to offer services like these, what would I have to do? What is a fair price do you think?

* Individual dog walking
* Pet-sitting
* Drop off service (groomers and vet)
* Pick up service (food and medicine)
* Home feeding and brushing service
* Leave progress report
* Litter box maintenance
* Bringing in mail
* Taking out trash and water plants

The licensing and taxation laws regarding a business vary by state, county, and city - I suggest that you call your closest Small Business Development Center or Small Business Administration to get someone to sit down with you and lay out the local requirements. Also, see if they have a class - my local SBDC offers a class called “Business Start-Ups and Tune-Ups” which I took and was very helpful. It was only $180 and was just one night a week for 10 weeks. During the course of the class, you learn something different every week and answer questions in the book they give you, and by the end, you compile all the answers you’ve given to make your business plan.

Being a service based operation dealing with animals, you will probably have to have some sort of insurance just in case someone’s animal gets injured while in your care. If you actually have a “place of business” you will need liability insurance, too, just in case a person gets injured while patronizing your business.
