they give you a sample of whatever you are getting vaccinated for, but it is either dead or not enough to make you sick. this allows your body to interact with it and create antibodies. once the antibodies are created your body is now able to fight off whatever you were vaccinated for right away if it encounters it again.

I believe most vaccines contain a dead or weakened version of the virus against which they are vaccinating you. That way, your own immune system can identify the virus and “program” the cells in your body to destroy that microbe before it can multiply to the extent at which it can cause your body damage, should you ever be exposed to it. They also contain certain preservatives to keep the virus from decaying, but the preservatives vary by vaccination.

This is all good info. Something I’d like to add. We are all set up to fight off diseases. When a nasty flu comes around everyone goes out and gets that flu vaccine. The problem I have is when a healthy 20something adult gets one of those vaccines. They should really only be used by people with suppressed immune systems/elderly, and children.

BTW vaccinate children for everything in the arsenal. By not vaccinating for something like polio you are endangering everyone else.

I just wanted mention that the flu shot isnt always effective. there are many strains of influenza and they can only make educated guesses based on what was prevelent the previous year as to what strain to vaccinate for

Very true. I’m just saying, save them for who needs them.
