Hi, I am writing hoping you can help me.
My husband and myself purchased a home in 1998, we along with my three girls moved into our 1st house together. Within the first month we notice one of the girls beds shifting, then a water line popped. My husband went under the house to fix the water line and noticed that several joists were laying on the ground with severval more in the process of falling. Our new 4 year old house was dryrotting. We also noticed that the previous owners tried to fix this problem but it did not work. We purchased this house through a realitor, had the proper inspections, and everything came back okay… we were not available to be there when the Inspection was to take place. We called several contractors to see about fixing this problem, only one would attempt, and this would cost us $40,000. We tried to sue the previous owners for not disclosing the situation, but got nowhere because they didn’t have any money, we tried suing the home inspector but got nowhere because he owed the government, we tried suing the insurance company and got $10,000 minus the lawyers expenses. This left us with almost nothing. My husband and myself had to borrow money to turn our gagage into a new home. We added on to our garage and built this home on our days off from work. This process took almot 2 years. In the mean time we lived in a house that the floors were falling from, and animals were living under, not a very safe way to live. We were in this home for almost 6 years. Our new home is still not finished, but it is livable. We are trying to tear down the old house before it completely falls in and somebody gets hurt, this old house is our problem, you see we still owe a mortgage on this house. My husband was laid off in Feb. 2006 from his job. I called all the banks about our loans and everyone was willing to work with us. Our mortgage bank told us to be 45 days late and they could help us out. We did as we were told, their help was foreclosure. Our loan is a veterans loan, they have stopped 3 sherriffs sale dates on our house, they keep telling us they are going to help, it has been over 2 years. The bank now says we are in arrears over $20,000 and this would bring us current. The veterans tell us to save our money; we still don’t know what they will do for us. I am in fear of them wanting alot of money when they let us know what is going to be done. This is money I don’t have, you see I have had to put an engine in a car, and over $1000 in auto machanic bills just to get 2 vehicles inspected, I have had to get my water well fixed, and replace a tankliess hot water heater that burst. Everytime I think I can save something, something else happens to take it from us. I just don’t know what to do… I hate to lose my house that we build with our own hands because of a house that is falling in. So I am asking for help.
