How do I avoid getting sued for not paying my credit card?

I won’t have a full time job till May, but they want the money now; otherwise they’ll sue me. My credit is bad, cause I lost my full time job, and wasn’t getting paid what I’m used to, so I didn’t pay my bills on time. Can somebody please help. I don’t want to file for bankruptcy, and I’m sure there is a better way.

You could try calling up the credit card company and explaining to them what happened. Chances are if they know that you plan to pay everything off and know that you do have a job lined up, they will work with you and perhaps let you make a few late payments. Remember that they just want their money…and if they know you WILL be paying them (instead of just running away) they should be willing to work with you.

I think it was just the debt collectors, trying to scare me. Anyhow, I started slowly paying my debts, with my tax money, and I’m on my way out of the hole. Should have all my debts paid in several months. I’m staying away from consolidation and counseling, because I would have to pay some company to do something I can do myself. All my credit cards will get interest of 6% soon, since I’m going over to fight in Afghanistan. No more credit cards for me. I was thinking about selling stuff, as well. Thanks for all your help.
