My mom just got out of the hospital.

She has serious heart problems.
She came home from work yesterday and she could barley breath.
It took my brother and I almost an hour to talk her into going to the emergency room
and then she told the doctors anything just so she could go home just so she could go to work today.
This is the third time this has happened.
I’m really worried about her, what should I do?

I think maybe you could speak to the doctor about your concerns directly, and perhaps he/she can influence your mother that she has to take it easy for some time or she’s really jeopardizing her health and her recovery… doctor’s orders!! I’m guessing a doctor must have approved her return to work? … or no? It would seem like she should be home resting for a period of time!!

Try to reason with her, that you’re scared, you don’t want to lose her out of stubborness on her part… she has to take it easy now and probably is not ready to return to work just yet! If the doctor agrees, have them talk to her too!!

I talked to the doctor already, all he said is he cant force her to do anything.
My mom didn’t ask if she can go back to work, she didn’t want him to say no.
Ive tried talking to her and she said she is going to be fine even though this keeps happening.

Well, does the doctor say that she shouldn’t be working? Ask him that question.. then try to reason with her with that… guilt her a little, about how scared you are and don’t want anything to happen, and don’t you mean more to her than that?!

Do you have other relatives who could also reason with her? Sometimes it helps if you gang up on someone like this…

When I was out of work for a short period of time recently, I had to get doctor’s approval to return to work… that meant he had to fill out all kinds of paperwork and say it was OK for me to go back to work. I can’t believe this hasn’t happened in your mom’s case, right after being in the hospital.

I should have asked that but it didn’t really cross my mind.
We don’t really have any family here.

Call and ask that question, is she well enough to return to work already? or leave the message for him… someone will give you the answer. Do you know any of her friends from work, anyone else who could try to get through to her to take it easy right now??? A neighbor?

Some folks (especially those who are providers, caregivers, or parents) have a difficult time accepting it when they feel ill, or when they feel like they need to be helped. Just tell her that you care about her, and that you don’t want anything to happen to her. See if there’s a way that you can identify the underlying problem in her health (with the help of a physician or doctor, of course) and try and figure out a long-term solution.

If she doesn’t want to listen…well, I know in the same situation, I always try to be the one who takes care of everyone else, so I’d probably react the same way that she did. I also have heart problems. But…I know that if you keep telling her you care about her, eventually she’ll listen, and things will turn out fine.

If people around me kept telling me that they cared about my health, I know that I’d eventually crack and get things fixed, too. ^^ It’s worked before.

I think I might do that.
I will try and talk to some of her friends.
