life help: Healthy Eating help. - Help.com

Healthy Eating help.

What are the main things every body needs in a diet? Reason I ask is coz Im trying to be more healthy in what I eat and when I eat. Every time I sit down and plan the weeks meals Im kinda guessing at what we need. So Im looking for directions in what each meal should contain and how often - like for example meat/protein 3 times weekly, green vegetable during monthly etc … (those are just examples so I dont know if they are right) what exactly should I add to my meal planning. What should I stay away from and what should I add? Im not trying diets and stuff coz I dont believe in them - and most of the time once you stop the diet all the weight just piles back on. Im just looking to improve my food/meals to be more healthy. Wondering if yall had some suggestions. Im accepting anything from simple suggestions to actual recipes :)
Thank you in advance - making steps towards healthier longer life!

i have porridge for breakfast ! that fills you and is healthy :)
and then a sandwich or salad roll for lunch!! :)
sushi is yummy too.

the best thing to do is to thave 6 small meals a day, its better for your body to digest instead of 3 large meals!

it doesnt have to be 6 prepared meals.
but like cereal for breaky

then an apple and banana in there somewhere.

so in stead of a huge hot breakfast
then a bowl of pasta for lunch with a lemonade
and a roast or whatever for dinner

6 smaller servings are much better !
avoid saturated fats ;)
good fats like nuts are great!
good protein too
x

Well, D and I get microwaved, flash frozen veggies that steam in bags. Fresh veggies (salad) in bags.

Brown rice.

We try not to eat beef. Chicken (skinless boneless chicken breasts) are suppose to be the super protein (according to my brother.) Fish, occasional shrimp…

Dressings made of olive oil and vinegar, fresh herbs…

fried foods bad

veggies good, eat as many raw veggies as you want

Actually, you don’t have to completely give up taste, I found it’s just a matter of portions and keeping things balanced.

Breakfast: One starch or grain, one dairy or high calcium food, one piece of fruit, you can even hae butter, jam and nuts in the smallest quantity like the size of a thumb tip.

Lunch: One starch or grain, one protein, one fruit, unlimited veggies (love those veggies)

Dinner: One starch or grain, one protein, and all the veggies you can eat.

Of course I do set a bad example, I actually forget to eat sometimes, lol

D and I can’t eat the moo cows—I think it’s because we haven’t found the right cut, supplier. Makes us feel like UGH. We did recently have pork tenderloins broiled in caramelized onion. Then on the flip side we had stoffers (frozen “fresh”) mac and cheese. LOL.

Try finding a Trader Joes, they’re very affordable.

We actually eat yummy basmatti rice (my brother is the healthnut and does the brown stuff) I own a rice cooker (bought at the asian market $100USD, 45 minutes to perfect rice.)

We fry (1-2 tbs of olive oil) left over rice with chianti sausage (2″ minced up), 1/4 medium onion, 3 tbs garlic, small tomato, and sometimes 1/2 sweet pepper. We eat a lot of strange burittos. Left over rice, marinated fish, shrimp, or chicken thighs.

We buy garlic in the (HUGE) jar already minced up. D and I love Garlic and onions.

Our olive oil is a blended oil, canola 2/3 and extra virgin olive 1/3. It’s cost effective, and from what I understand canola is better than veggie.

Only problem I have with Trader Joes is that its always different so you might not find what you need on your list :S and the whole idea is Im trying to plan and make lists and be healthy :D not finding some thing on the list could spell disaster.

2 servings of fruit a day, 3 servings of vegetables; of those, 3-5 a week should be leafy green vegetables. lean protein such as legumes and beans, tofu, soy should be added to your diet. try substituting half the meat in a recipe with tofu.

Great website: mypyramid.gov

It has a meal planner that shows you what you need to eat each day, and a thingy where you can enter the food you eat and it evaluates EVERYTHING, like whether you are getting enough protein, or too much fat, and it keeps track of all your vitamins. It’s really cool, I use it every once in a while to make sure I’m eating healthy because I’m vegetarian. It gives you little happy or sad faces for each thing, so it’s really easy to use.

We carry cold bags, because sometimes what you want isn’t at the first store.

You can make full, fast, delicious meals on the cheap, as some would say.
Also cut soda pop, heavy sugar beverages out the diet and up your water intake–HUGE difference.

Trust me helps you. Can give you great recipes, advice, helps you track if you want to lose weight, helps you plan out meals, helps you also keep track of everything you eat if you add it in there so you know how many carbs, sugars, protiens, fibers, salts, etc etc that you are taking in.
