I am a concerned parent that is trying to help her children’s small rural school.

We only have 213 children from PREK to 8th grade, all of which perform at high standards and are very respectful to adults. We live in a farming community but about 5 five years ago a developer built a golf course/country club. The owner valued his propery at 2.1 million dollars which cut out alot of our state funding that we had always received. In the meantime, the owner lives out of state, has sold many lots, that range from $60,000 to $150,000 each, and also built a 5 million dollar club house for people that drive down from Oklahoma City. All of this would be fine if he paid his taxes. He and his organization has not paid advalorem taxes for the years of 2005-2007. The state cannot give us any additional money even though they know he has not paid. We have to hold out until the fourth year of unpaid taxes (2009 for us) and then he only has to pay the first year he is behind. We have exhausted any and all extra money that the school has. We may not have enough money for food to feed our children breakfast and lunch or gas for our bus. Probably at least 90% of the children ride the bus because of our rural location. We don’t even have a town around our school. The next town is 8 miles or so away and they usually support their own school. The country club owes us $230,000 in daily operational money alone. We are have about 25 employees total for our school and we will have to lay off teachers because of this situation. We have had a wonderful school since the 1920’s and we just want to carry on with our success. Our kids this year have won the academic team challenge 1st place for ORES, 3rd place for the entire state of Oklahoma competing againist all sizes and districts of schools, girls softball champs ORES, girls 1st runner up basketball champions ORES, and most of all…our kids are respectful to adults, geniunely like each other and work hard in their lessons. I just need some help to get food, gas, money donations, or even a lead on how to get help from businesses or corporations. It has to be quick too, we can make it through April after that, who knows. I can send a scanned letter from our Superintendent if anyone wants proof of our situation. Please help if you can. If you would like to send a donation contact me and I will give you the school address. My email is SOS which stands for SAVE OUR SCHOOL——– (email removed) Thanks! Laurie
