They work, but only to a degree. What you need to do is change up ab exercises constantly. Do three different ab exercises each day every other day and switch them up every workout. That way, your body will never get used to the regiment and will continually build and grow. Click that link I gave you to find some great ab workouts that have really helped me out.

And definitely do this:

http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/ms-fi…

It doesn’t sound like much, but it really does help work out your abs a LOT. I did just two sets of these one day and the next morning I was sore beyond belief.

However, what worked for me may not necessarily work for you. Remember that when it comes to any workout. Everyone has different body-types and your workout must accommodate your body-type. So if one workout just isn’t working for you, then considering yourself and do that which feels natural to you.

And don’t forget about your diet! That has more to do with abs than any ab exercise ever will, so keep close watch on it.

It doesn’t matter how many crunches you do if you’ve a layer of fat covering those flat, toned abs. Up the lean meat/veg, lower your fat intake, and your overall calorie intake and combine cardiovascular exercise with weight training and the inevitable crunches.
The best way to tone up for a specfic type of exercise is to do that exercise! Everytime you run, push yourself a bit further. How far you run is not down to muscle tone, it’s more about stamina and cardio fitness. You can’t run if you don’t have a decent lung capacity!
When it comes to strengthening your arms for swimming, do plenty of swim training with paddles. They’re squares of plastic you put on your hands and they increase the resistance to your stroke in the water and are very useful. Also, do upper body weight training, ask a trainer at your gym to see if they have any tips, that’s what they’re paid for!

You gotta burn it off! Do some Cardio on the Elipticle or Treadmill and set it on Fat Burn

Well, as I was pretty inconsistent with my workout, it took me a good one-and-a-half months before I saw anything drastic, but if you stick with it and make sure you do plenty of cardio in between (run one day, work your abs the next), then you should start seeing something going on after the first three or four weeks.

Remember, though, that every body is different. Depending on numerous factors (such as your current body weight, body fat percentage, diet, and other things), it could take longer or faster to see any results. Just remember, though, that the way you look and seeing results is only a by-product of what you’re doing. You will look good, especially if you stick with it, but what’s more important is that you’re healthy. Don’t worry so much about outward appearances; you’re not a bodybuilder! Just keep going at it and remember that your body is thanking you for it.
