不好意思说。

I met a lively girl on the bus today. She is a transfer student from China and she is lovely company, but I rocked my first impression. She noticed that I am studying Chinese, which I initially thought to be an excellent opportunity to practice, that was until I suddenly felt myself in the natural position of “foreigner” and I struggled. Obviously she speaks better Chinese than me, but her English is impressive too, the encounter paralyzed me. I did not even think to speak English, so I was with out my character and charm ;)
Now then, after all of this and after she first stepped off of the bus, I felt pretty good about the event and my performance (my performance). Down the river a bit more I realized what a lichen I was through the whole process and I also realized that in my fluster womboxing I never REALLY took the effort to remember her name (hmm)The good news, I eventually found a way to spin this into a semi-fate delusion that I can sleep with: this event is a burst of motivational ore to learn Chinese because recently there has been some class pap-wash and negativity that (to put simply) does not help the overall Chinese learning effort for anyone.
Of course, the point, or more important, the reader’s (you) role in this: Ha, I am confident that most people who read and considered my story (minus the title) do not recognize an immediate need for help or specific calling, so- this is open.

It’s actually quite nice considering there’s little to no humidity. I shouldn’t really complain. I get to wear summer clothes for about 9 months out of the year and I don’t have to worry about frizzy hair. :)

yea i can speak English but not that well.and i study in university now.

Aha, right? I blame the lessons for starting the tendency to fall back. That should be the “last” lesson (assuming you do not learn how to say it by accident)

I wouldn’t worry about that - you did amazing using your Chinese. In fact, I have issues learning English never mind anything else.

I went to a traditional Chinese food place with two Chinese girls once - I have not idea what they ordered, no idea what I was eating and no idea what they were saying about me. I’d love to learn Chinese sometime. Having studied the menu of the place for ages I don’t see how what is written down relates to what is actually said - there does not seem to be any clues to pronunciations in there. Maybe I just don’t know what I’m looking for though..

Even with French and German - two languages I know enough to get by with - I very rarely speak them.

So go you!

Aww, I didn’t really summon all of that up, I had to look to my books for some of it. Thank you though, I am glad to have the chance to REALLY use it, kind of neat.
Oh, two girls, eh? It would seem you have done just fine not speaking Chinese. ;)
Well, if you are just looking at the characters for some hint of pronunciation, then you are part right. However, you need to learn the “pinyin” (Chinese characters broken into English letters with tone markings) and then you start to see the correlations and how and why the characters are formed.
Go YOU! Use those languages!
