Theatre in NY
Hey! Going to NY in june and I want to see a good show. I was in drama school for four years so this is something I’d really love to do. I like unconventional stuff: I’ve seen some recordings of the Wooster group and would love to see them perform but unfortunately they seem to be touring Europe when I’m in NY (typical). But I do like that sort of stuff… performance art, devised theatre, political theatre. I’m not really into musicals unless they are a sarcastic parody on something and work as such. I like Sarah Kane, Shakespeare (who doesn’t), Beckett, Mayenburg, Pirandello, O’Neill, Dario Fo…..and many many more. Also I’ve been reading some Adam Rapp but never really seen anything beside from that movie he did. Would love to see something on stage that he wrote.
Beside from all that it’s really just about the company that produces the play. It’s easy to mess up a brilliant script but a bad script can become brilliant in the right hands. I also like seeing shows that have not used plays but made their own show though improv and/or other means.
I am also open to unconventional modern dance productions (dance theatre…stuff like that). I’ve seen for example: Pina Bausch and Sasha Waltz. Like their stuff a lot!
Anybody seen something recently or heard something? Something interesting? If so PLEASE let me know :) thanks!
