marriage help: I’m really worried. - Help.com

I’m really worried.

My dad has a new girlfriend and they’re talking about being married, but the worst thing is every time my mum even says something his girlfriend says its a threat and calls the police, and he just goes with her. There was an accidental text just sent to my dad from my mum and my dad’s girlfriend just phoned the police saying “VB” was a threat and the police are now on the way. Anything I can do? :(

Sorry about your family going through a divorce. There’s not much you can do, but your mum will have to have zero contact with the girlfriend. Threats against another person will result in legal action, even criminal prosecution, but the police will look at “intent.” I’m sure your mum has really bad feelings for the girlfriend, but she’ll just have to let go of her anger. Easier said than done, but millions of people have had to do it.
