Ipod Touch help needed!

My new Ipod Touch (Just bought it, 8GB) refuses to
a) turn on
b) charge
c) sync

I’ve tried connecting it to my macbook (with 2.0 USB ports) and to a power outlet with two different cords. It remains off. I’ve tried holding the home button. Same result.

Help please!!!
