I need financial aid help.
I’m a 21 year old freshman in college. I lost the HOPE scholarship for Georgia when I was 18, and it was my fault. I screwed around too much, and failed all of my classes. This was my fault; I am fully aware of that.
With my head hanging low, and a 1.0 GPA, I enrolled in a local technical school with the HOPE grant (similar to the scholarship, only for tech school students), under the impression that I could get my GPA back up to par and re-enroll at the college I was attending. After a year of attendance and making the dean’s list (twice), I was told that nothing I took out there would count toward college credit after all. Slightly pissed, I immediately quit, took out a student loan and went back to my old college. Now I feel like an old man surrounded by 18 and 19 year olds, and I feel like I’ve missed my opportunity to finish school. I’d be a junior by now if I hadn’t messed it all up. I just feel so depressed about it, and it’s affecting my grades. Are there any financial aid options that I don’t know about besides FastWeb? I need more money, but I don’t want to take out more loans. I’ll eventually earn back the HOPE, but until then, it’s all on me. Someone help me please.
