I just built a website at www.wealthy-writer.com
This is my first real site and I wanted to know what people think. No one likes the template. I thought it was cool. I don’t know why everyone says it is hard to read and they don’t like it.

The site is all advertising and your not allowed to do that on this site. Reat the TOS. Hope this helps :-)
I want to know about the TEMPLATE. I’m sure you are really good on the net. I just don’t know why people don’t like the template.
You’re kidding, right? You think that template looks good? All the important stuff is squeezed over to the left-hand side of the page, making it very difficult to read. If it occupied more of the center then it would be much nicer. If at all possible, try to space out all the junk that is on the right-hand side into columns instead of having them go horizontally across the page. It’s not so much that it is hard to read, it just feels like a chore to read since all the stuff you’re meant to be reading is far smaller than the adverts, giving them a feeling of less importance.

Actually the post is fine. It’s asking for advice. Advertising would be asking people to buy something or have them sign up on the users sight to see/use it.
But anyway, whats with all the adds(along with the small area for the bulk of your site)?
ads* typos hehe
Hey, you asked for feedback, so ermm…well firstly congrats on building a webpage (which is way more than I’m capable of, lol!), but I’m sorry that the rest is going to be constructive criticism:
My basic message is this: Your ads are taking over the shop and make it pretty grotty to look at!! Looks like one of those irritating pop-up windows covered with ads but minus the naked ladies, lol!!! Do you need that many ads? Are there any that you can lose??
- Sort out the ad size. You don’t want ads to be the first thing that someone sees when they click onto your page, as it’s offputting.
- Your page is cut down the middle, which it shouldn’t be. The reader wants to read what you have to say and if all they see is garish ads taking up half the page, they’ll be put off. If you want to make this reader-friendly, then the text to the left is FAR MORE IMPORTANT than the adverts to the right. I’m talking from a reader perspective, not a revenue perspective.
- Perhaps separate out your ads and keep them off the top part of the page. Ideally they should go at the bottom of the page, but in a nice format, spread out in a way that looks nice.
- Your ads need reshaping and resizing. One of the ads looks particularly annoying, as it seems to be stretched painfully downwards and the words are too big.
- Any text to the right hand side should ideally only be menus. Towards the bottom of the page, where the menus run out, you can perhaps put some ads in there, of the same size as the menus.
That’s all for now…best of luck with the project,
Cookie Xx
Thanks for the help. I was told this is a ‘new’ type of template for business because it can be resized for cell phones etc. I’ve kept blogs on this topic, and have been a freelance writer for a long time.
I’ve had lots of blogs that give free info - but this is new for me. I appreciate all the advice - even the ‘not so good’. It doesn’t hurt - I didn’t make this template but downloaded it from Wordpress :D
Actually, it was easy to make. I just clicked a button in Fantastico and selected Wordpress. Then I just put the template in the right file and voila - I had a website. My friend and I built ours on Wed night in about 2 hours each (hers looks a lot better.)

Suzanne,
I agree with Ken and Cookie Dough…
Something else I might mention is the color– there may not be enough contrast between background and font for people to see, especially if they are viewing from cellphone.
From a professional point of view the template is too busy. You need to keep in mind less is better. Pick up a newspaper and take a look at the ads that are placed in them and see white space? Even full page ads with process color have a lot of space which takes away from a busy ad. You need to delete most of the stuff that you have on there. It is called mind overload and when this happens people stop looking. Also your colors are not people friendly they have a negative effect instead of making someone comfortable to stay and look around…
Well, how about my template then here www.mytestbox.com ? Does that look good :)?
